Our School Day

Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club runs every day during term time. The sessions run from 7.45am to 8.45am. Children may participate for the whole or part of the session. PH Sports provide this service and bookings need to be made directly with them.

The sessions consist of a breakfast followed by an activity session. The activity session usually takes place outside, weather permitting. If it is wet the children play games indoors.

To book your child into the breakfast club please visit the PH Sports site at http://phsports.co.uk/breakfast-club-bookings/

Start of School
The school opens at 8.40am. We run a stop and drop system which starts at 8.40am to try and alleviate parking problems around the school.

Please ensure that children are not dropped off before 8.40am.  A member of staff will be on duty at the entrance to the car park at 8.40am. Staff will open car doors and help children out so that they enter school through the car park entrance. Please ensure your child is wearing their coat and have book bags with them to keep drop off swift. If children are sat behind the drivers seat, this also helps and is a much safer exit to the school. Encourage your child to walk around the back of the car if they do get out from the passenger side.

New reception children have been introduced to this routine in past years and cope really well with drop off. Mrs Woodley will be able to advise during the home visit at the start of the school year.
The member of staff leaves the car park entrance at 8.55am.

Registration is at 8.55am for KS2 and 9.00am for KS1.  children arriving after this time must enter the school through the main entrance and report to reception, parents should accompany the children to the front door, in this instance.

Any important messages that need to be shared before should be emailed to teachers and messages can be passed on to the staff member on the gate.

Parents should contact the school if their child will be absent for that day; if children are not in school by 9.30am and no message received, Mrs Bawden will telephone in line with our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.

Morning Playtime
All children have a morning play and are encouraged to drink water and have a fresh fruit or vegetable snack. We encourage the children to take their skipping rope out to play.
Playtime may vary for each class, but it coincides with maths lessons - a cohort within the class has maths with their class teacher and the other cohort will have their play with other year groups.
During morning play, children will read to reading buddy and/or practice their maths passport target.

Lunchtimes run from 12.10pm-1.00pm Monday to Friday.

Children eat lunch in the classrooms. They bring in their own packed lunch or if they are in Key Stage 1 a lunch can be ordered or bring a packed lunch from home.
School Lunches for Potters and Thatchers are currently provided by The Acorn Academy Trust based at the kitchen at New Close School.

Afternoon Playtime
Key Stage 1 children may have an afternoon play. This is usually at 2.30pm but times can vary due to the activities taking place.
School Worship
We have whole school worship on Monday, led by the Headteacher.
On Tuesday, this is followed up with Key Stage Worships.
Our Wednesday worship is led by Teachers and House Captains in the child's House Team.
On Thursdays, Worship  is led by a member of our local clergy.
Our Friday Worship is our Celebration Worship with the whole school.
Worship is at 2.40pm each day.

End of school
Key Stage 1
Potters and Thatchers finish at 3.10pm. They will be let out from their classrooms, onto their playgrounds, one at a time, when the staff member has 'spotted' an adult

Key Stage 2
Weavers and Foresters finish at 3.20pm and will be released by their teacher/staff member onto the Thtachers' playground. Foresters may go straight to their adult when they see them and must not leave the school premises alone. Parents of Year 6 children can send a letter to their teacher to give permission to walk home or to the car.
Please do let the teachers know if

General After School Club
In addition to our after school clubs we operate a ‘General After School Club’ where the children can stay in school until 4.15pm each day. The children are given refreshments and can play games, do homework or socialize with friends. There is a nominal charge of £3.00 per family per day

Any child not picked up by 5 mins after their home time, will attend General After School Club asking for a signature and payment..

If you are collecting your child and are unavoidably delayed, please telephone the school, on 01985 212168, so that your child does not have to suffer any undue anxiety.
We have varying after school clubs each seasonal term for varying year groups over the year.  These vary from music clubs to Sports clubs and are run by volunteers. Our General After-school Late club is on every day for all children (with very few 'odd' days when it is just not possible!
